It’s funny how it’s always the Muslim woman who is “oppressed”
Forever Reblog.
Welp.
Yeah, because its fine if the women look like us. But if they have brown skin, it must be a terrible tool of oppression - we need to show these people how to act civilized.
It bothers me how much our American exceptionalist attitude truly does still translate into our invasion and interference into other cultures/countries/governments business and practices. It’s been our tradition since 1442…
I wonder if Morrigan is going to be an antagonist in DA3?
The Adventures of Dame Ladycock, War Princess: I am, despite myself, excited about DA3
Even though DA2 threw a lot of disappointment my way, I still get a little frothy at the mouth at the ideal of DA3.
I am a little apprehensive just from the name. Inquisition is… well it doesn’t have good implications in anything written in the global north…
From what I heard, you can only be human again in Inquisition (BOO) but you aren’t forced to be pro-Templar or anti-Mage. I have no idea how that’s going to work out.
But yeah I really think DA2 was a step backwards and I’m not getting my hopes up. Its DA4 when they MIGHT let you choose origins again that I’m looking forward to XD
In a recent BBC report on homosexual Muslims in the UK, one interviewee described an experience she had at a gay pride rally. She says, “‘There was an occasion at gay pride once where one of the marchers turned around and quite crudely said, ‘we didn’t know pride was allowing suicide bombers on the march’ –– it was really shocking to hear it from a fellow gay marcher.” The intersection of an affirmative declaration of gay and Muslim identifications runs into the ascriptive identification of all Muslims as terrorists.

The Prince of Egypt (1998)
Every time The Ten Commandments comes on TV, I wish it was Prince of Egypt.
SPOILERS FOR THE DRAGON AGE COMICS BELOW:
Some time back, there was a kerfuffle on Bioware’s Dragon Age message boards regarding their disappointingly offensive portrayal of a trans character in DA2. There was the usual tact and sensitivity you’d expect from the dudebros, but one of the game writers did step in, apologize for the poor portrayal, and say they’d try to do better in future.
Well, here we are.
Maevaris Tilani is introduced in Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1. She’s unassumingly announced as a Tevinter Magister and part of Varric’s family, helps Varric, Isabella, and Alistair escape when things go belly up and vanishes for the rest of the series.
Pick up again in Dragon Age: Until We Sleep #1, where Mae has been captured and interrogated by Titus, the villain of the series.
And we find that Mae is lacking cis-female attributes.
And later, in the Fade, we get some more glimpses into her character:
Mae does make it through to the end of the series, helping the heroes win the day.
This is, frankly, excellent. Not once is there so much as a snide remark about Mae’s body conformation or sexual preference. She’s addressed with the proper pronouns throughout both series. She’s a person of accepted high standing among her peers and an undeniable asset to the heroes, not there as a curiosity or so that the writers can show her off for diversity points. And she is not killed for angst!
I’m still not hearing anything about DA3 that’s making me excited to pick it up. But you know? If Mae’s one of the companions, I will seriously put down money for it. Cross my heart.
Oh please please please let her be a companion in DAIII.
Also Isabela whats going with ur shirt there and your hand.
TSURIN. TSURIN, QUIT FLIRTING NEXT TO THE SKINNED COW, GAWD.
When last I left off, Tsurin had just recruited Zevran.
So, some extensive mental acrobatics were involved in this first conversation with Zevran. Tsurin’s not exactly suave, so she wouldn’t say these exact words, or indeed any at all. The intention was the same— rather, picture hopelessly flustered gurgling and blushing and ducking her head down into the cowl of her cape, and you’ve got the general gist of how the conversation probably went. Bond, she is not.
The parts about killing, about assassinating, went alright, she stumbled her way through that just fine, but as soon as he looked at her, brow raised, and asked if she’d any problems about being flirted with, her whole train of thought just crumpled apart and she stared at him, fingers pressed together before her parted mouth, blushing to the tips of her ears. AND THUS THE GREAT FAILMANCE OF OUR AGE BEGAN, AS IT WAS MEANT TO, RIGHT NEXT TO A FRESHLY SLAUGHTERED AND SKINNED COW.
Awwww. I usually have the same problem, my Warden wouldn’t exactly say what the options are, but close enough.
I just wish there was an option for “I do disagree but I’m not judging you I mean we come from completely different backgrounds and I’m not interested in shoving my ideas on you, you do what you gotta do” followed by awkward silence.
